The 2024 Competition in schools of Campania region “Create your commercial for a correct diet”, organized as part of the SWITCHtoHEALTHY Project last March, has come to an end.
The competition, aimed at promoting healthy eating habits based on the Mediterranean Diet among the new generations, involved an audience of over 3,100 students and around 460 teachers in Regione Campania. The pupils from elementary, middle and high schools in Campania who joined the initiative created over 190 promotional videos, in Italian and English, focused on the defense and valorization of the Mediterranean Diet and its most representative local agri-food products. With animated cartoons, catchy songs, performances, dances, and very original footages, the young students showed a great interest in issues related to correct nutrition and the valorization of the regional agri-food productions.
A total of 7 institutes were awarded: 5 classes from as many schools won the prize for the best commercials; one class achieved the special “Anna Di Gennaro” award for the most original commercial; finally, the class that created the promotional spot that received the highest number of likes on TikTok was awarded the SWITCHtoHEALTHY Special Prize and gained the title of “Mediterranean Diet Influencer” .
“Create your commercial for a correct diet” has been confirmed as a successful initiative, capable of actively involving a very large number of children, adolescents and educators. It combines the rediscovery of the principles of the Mediterranean Diet and local products, with the use of modern methodologies and channels capable of stimulating the interest of new generations. The Competition was enriched this year with a real online challenge for the attribution of the SWITCHtoHEALTHY Special Prize, which recorded over 13,000 interactions on the project TikTok social account within days. This approach will be highlighted as a best practice for promoting the Mediterranean Diet among younger generations, and will be thoroughly examined by the SWITCHtoHEALTHY Permanent Observatory of the Mediterranean Diet.
